Vigan is the capital city of Ilocos Sur, one fo the few towns left in the Philippines with a truly intact Hispanic infrastructure. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as one of the New7Wonders Cities as declared by the Internet-based organization New7Wonders Foundation in May 2015.

\With such worldwide acclamation, visiting Vigan should definitely be on the travel itinerary of any self-respecting tourist to the Philippines!  Unserprisingly, there are quite a few hotels in this small city, so making a choice can be hard. Here are the best Vigan hotels to check out if you are planning on making the tour.

Touted as the “the first and only museum hotel in the Philippines,” it is the place to visit for anyone interested in Filipino artists. The mini museum displays the work of contemporary as well as master artists, including Juan Luna and BenCab. The hotel itself is appropriately a period piece, worthy of a four-star rating as hotels go, and the service and food are excellent. The focus is not so much on amenities as for the historic experience, but it is all good considering the location in the middle of Heritage Village!

If you want a feel of the Spanish era and don’t mind spending a bit more, this is a good place to feel it. Clients consistently give this hotel 4.5 out of 5 stars for the décor, cleanliness, friendly service, and excellent food. The most common complaint is the prices and occasional loss of power. Very young children and pets may not be a good idea.

2. Hotel Veneto de Vigan (check discounted rates)

This is a more conventional type of hotel in Vigan, although it is also remodeled from an old building. No museum, though, so it is more a place to stay than to visit. It is best advantage is its proximity to all the major tourist spots and commercial areas in Vigan. It is clean, comfortable, and the service is good. Many clients recommend the breakfast, which is ample, and it is considered a good place for families to stay. Clients consistently give it 4 out of 5 stars. The most common complaint is poor WiFi connection and lack of room amenities. It is not a pet-friendly hotel.

3. Casa Rica Hotel (check discounted rates)

If you are looking for more affordable accommodations, this is probably a good hotel for your money. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is adequate. It is quite a small hotel, but it is close to the center of the city and has fast WiFi, so whatever it lacks on hotel amenities may be offset by its price and convenience. However, it is also a bit noisy, and parking is a problem.

Anyone expecting more than the most basic amenities will be disappointed. Clients consistently give this hotel 3 out of 5 stars, the most common complaint being poor plumbing and mosquitoes. Not recommended for families with young children as the walls of the rooms are quite thin.

More a travelodge than a hotel, it is appropriate for business trips and conferences as it is just a 5-minute walk to the bus terminal and right across the Vigan Convention Center.  It has a clean, outdoor pool, which is a major selling point for the area, and WiFi.  Staff is friendly, and the rates are reasonable. Families with small children may find it a good deal, especially with the campsite facilities. Clients consistently give this hotel 3.5 out of 5 stars for its price, convenience, and friendly staff. The most common complaint is its distance from the city center. It is not pet-friendly.

Another remodeled old building with the expected period pieces and ambiance, this hotel is near the historic center of the city, which apparently means higher rates. However, clean accommodations and convenient location reconcile many clients to the price.  It is a good hotel for families and groups. Clients consistently give 4 out of 5 stars. The most common complaint is the erratic air conditioning, and a few clients believe it is overpriced.

6. Regency Hotel de Vigan (check discounted rates)

A somewhat central location and reasonable rates are the best features of this hotel. They have rooms that are ideal for families and groups on a budget, and it comes with breakfast. Clients consistently give this hotel 2 out of 5 stars, the most common complaint being poor management and service. If you are a big group just looking for a place to stay the night, this is a good place to consider.
